Starting Yoga Online
It may not be immediately apparent but the word ‘Yoga’ means such a wide variety of things depending on the person you are speaking with.
It seems these days that everyone has their own idea of what yoga is, whether they are a person who practices daily, one who has practiced here and there, or someone who has never rolled out a yoga mat.
Classes at Raw Wellbeing
We offer a range of different classes at Raw Wellbeing to suit the different needs of those who wish to practice with us,
All our classes and instructors have a foundation in a Trauma Aware approach - this means we understand everybody is different - physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Trauma Informed practices are supportive for all of us as we navigate the unavoidable challenges, stress and trauma of daily life.
This means our classes always offer variations, regressions, progressions, choice and invitation. We are here to guide and support.
Raw 2.0 - Grand Opening
Raw 2.0 - 'Raw Wellbeing studio' will have its grand opening day on Saturday the 18th of February,
We will kick off the day with two classes and then have open doors for anyone to come and see us, enjoy a cup of tea and get the feel for our new boutique space back in Milford.
What is Trauma Informed Yoga?
A ‘Trauma Informed’ approach to yoga has been slowly making its way onto the yoga scene for a number of years now, offering invitation and choice at every opportunity.
For those who are not aware of this approach, it may seem nuanced, or something for a limited few who appear to struggle with managing their own lives. Yet, from my point of view, we could all benefit from a more trauma informed approach to living, and I believe Yoga is a great place to start.
Trauma Informed Yoga is a specific way of sharing the profound teachings that yoga has to offer, alongside a deeper understanding of trauma.

The 6 Concepts of Self Reflection
The process of self reflection is more aligned with a lifestyle.
We become more self Aware.
Self Awareness leads to more alignment with our purpose, better boundaries, more ease through relationships, greater self worth and the list could go on and on.
One of the greatest things I believe we can do for ourselves, and others is to become more self aware. To actually invest time and energy into learning about who we really are and how we interact in the world.
I think the biggest hurdle for people is why.
Why would I start to look at my life in a different way?
What is Natural Law?
I believe some of us are born with all the dots connected.
Over time some of us end up following this inner voice to gain the insight and knowledge of what this big picture feeling is.
There is a sense, a feeling, even sensations that hold this wisdom in the body. They speak a silent language of what the world, and even the universe is about.
Yet we go to school, we listen to our families and friends and slowly fall in line with what we are being told, of what the so-called ‘normal’ must be.
Aligning with Truth.
We live in a world filled with polarising views and opinions that can feel like a whirlwind of confusion.
I would suggest that confusion itself can lead us down an interesting path of self destruction.
Confusion at first glance may seem innocent, yet in actual fact it can be a state in which we continually deny ourselves the truth.
Truth in itself can seem elusive, for many of us we may believe truth is subjective.
Self Reflection : My Road to Freedom
Without self reflection (whether you call it that or not) a person is left like a floating reactive sponge, programmed with a set of beliefs/ideals/opinions that have mostly come from external sources but feel like internal 'truths'. Without any internal filtering through the body to understand what is true for each individual they end up absorbing these beliefs/ideals/opinions as their own and then in turn reacting to anything that does not align with these 'truths'.
Toxic Blame & Shame Cycles
Modern Yoga has become like therapy for a lot of us - far from the traditional goal of gaining enlightenment - most are looking for a tool to help us stay sane.
Which sends me spiralling into thought... Where has all the sanity gone? Since the rise of scientific materialism and the church betraying us one too many times, where is it safe to turn? Many of us are and have turned towards New Age Spirituality… and high up on that list is a Yoga practice.
Ahimsa - Non-Violence. ‘Gentle Eyes to Reality as it is’
Ahimsa, a concept that on the surface seems relatively simple, NO Violence.
I believe most of us in the yoga world can comfortably say we are non-violent humans (which I might add is awesome!) I have a lot of respect for my friends who are out there fighting for the 'little guy' and doing their best everyday to make a difference, whether it be for animal rights, human equality, or protecting the environment. At times though these battles can be overwhelming and lead to a state of defeat and confusion. While others having this knowledge of Ahimsa can be lead to a false sense of hierarchy, entering them into a 'guru' like state of feeling bigger and more profound than everyone else. Either way the line is thin and for the most part, pretty grey.
